The latest horror-comedy genre screening of the “Spree” left people who attended the premiere at Sundance film festival 2020 at the edge of their seats.
Whoever bought the 2020 Sundance film festival tickets ended up freaked out after witnessing its premier. It features Joe Keery as Kurt Kunkle who’s a driver addicted to getting fame on social media ends up being a serial killer.
It’s not something cliché that you see in every other horror film. Kurt is not being a serial killer for the greater good, for fun or for any girl. He just wants to be acknowledged on social media. Pretty crazy isn’t it?
Moreover, Kurt has a hidden camera fixed at one side of the car and that’s what makes things interesting. We view the killing spree of this delusional driver as if we were going through the stories of Snapchat or Instagram. We would see the mad driver kill his rides in gruesome ways just to get some likes. He goes with the username @KurtsWorld96 and starts a hashtag #TheLesson which goes viral as he attempts murders.
The story turns more interesting when one of his passengers Jessie Adams (Sasheer Zamata) being annoying survives a journey with him and Kurt becomes unknowingly obsessed with this person. The whole mashup of horror and comedy is what makes this film stand out in all 2020 Sundance movies. No wonder this film got such good reviews at the 2020 Sundance film festival.
