This annual program includes a number of categories. Such as dramatic and documentary features and short films; series and episodic content; and New Frontier, showcasing emerging media in the form of multimedia installations, performances, and films. The event will take place from January 23rd to February 2nd, 2021.

Binti (Belgium)

Director and Screenwriter: Frederike Migom

Producer: Katleen Goossens

With a 90-minutes run time and English subtitles with original delivery in Dutch, Binti is recommended for ages 8 and up. This film narrates the story of undocumented immigrants from Congo, twelve-year-old Binti and her father, Jovial, who have big dreams and aspirations.

All her dreams of becoming an online influencer are shattered when their refugee camp is attacked one night by the Belgian police. Humour, coupled with empathy and love, make this movie worth a watch, along with an unexpected idea that Binti forms to get her immigrant family out of trouble.

Come Away (United Kingdom/U.S.A.)

Director: Brenda Chapman

Screenwriter: Marissa Kate Goodhill

Producers: Leesa Kahn, James Spring, David Oyelowo, Steve Richards, and Andrea Keir

Content Advisory: Some scenes may be frightening to younger viewers

This 94-minutes run time movie is recommended for ages 8 and up. It tells the story of David and his siblings, who live and play in an idyllic country home, where their imaginations are strong and wild. Things start to change when Eleanor, their aunt, decides that David must now go to a boarding school, as she thinks that these children’s games are affecting their upbringing.

However, none of them has any idea of the tragedy that is soon going to hit their family. David’s siblings, Alice and Peter, try to find a solution to their family’s failing emotional and financial health, only to find themselves in even worse troubles. Come Away is filled with fun, play, hope, and some terrific performances.

Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made (U.S.A.)

Director: Tom McCarthy

Screenwriters: Stephan Pastis/Tom McCarthy

Producers: Jim Whitaker/Tom McCarthy

This Walt Disney Studios’, 99-minutes run time movie, showcases the story of Timmy Failure, who is the founder and CEO of a detective agency, Total Failure, Inc. He strives to keep the streets of Portland safe by solving cases such as finding missing backpacks, and exposing some criminal gangs. He is on the hunt of finding himself a global office when he is hit by the news of his scooter’s disappearance.

A series of misadventures begin when he launches his plans to recover his sole means of transportation. It is a light-hearted and fun movie, which depicts that being different is not such a bad idea after all.
