Sundance 2021’s Midnight Section: A Night Full of Horror and Comedy

Sundance Film festival 2021, an eleven day event to be held in January, recently revealed its featuring films for the most interesting category of all, the Midnight. Midnight is a unique combination of comedy and horror – two interesting genres which aim to keep you alert and awake during the most complex and difficult hours.



Amulet​

Country: United Kingdom

Director and screenwriter: Romola Garai



Storyline: Homeless Tomaz who is also a former soldier, is now shifted to an old house in London. Magda, who lives with her sick mother in the house now becomes Tomaz’s love interest, mean while he speculates a hint doubt of other spiritual beings residing in the house too.

Bad Hair​

Country: U.S.A.



Director and screenwriter: Justin Simien

Storyline: A horror genre, set in 1989, focuses on a determined girl who gets herself a weave to escape the Television world. In doing so she soon realizes that her hair might end up as a hurdle in her new career.

His House

Country: United Kingdom

Director and screenwriter: Remi Weekes

Storyline: Evil is all around, but a young couple needs to survive and adapt to this small English town after their escape from the South Sudan war zone.

Impetigore

Country: Indonesia

Director and screenwriter: Joko Anwar

Storyline: An unlucky woman, in hope of some out of the box luck returns back to her village in yearning for an inheritance scheme. To her surprise, she finds out that she is the ultimate key that the villagers had been searching to uplift a curse.

The Night House​

Country: U.S.A.

Director: David Bruckner

Storyline: A recent widow, now starts to unveil her dead husband’s messy and unsettling secrets.

The Nowhere Inn

Country: U.S.A.

Director: Bill Benz

Storyline: A St. Vincent movie as she aims to create a documentary that includes her music journey, revealing all behind the scenes along with a deep insight to her actual celebrity life. Her best friend is hired to direct the film, ensuring to portray how twisted ideas of originality, truth and recognition can get.

Relic

Country: Australia

Director: Natalie Erika James

Storyline: Edna, is a patient of dementia who lives alone in her house. One day Sam, her granddaughter and Kay, her daughter start searching for her as she disappears. Kay and Sam, are quite suspicious on Edna’s return out of nowhere, believing that the house is haunted by spirits and control old Edna.

Run Sweetheart Run

Country: U.S.A.

Director and screenwriter: Shana Feste

Storyline: A beautiful evening for a blind date turns out to be a violent disaster leaving the woman to make her way through to Los Angeles.

Scare Me​

Country: U.S.A.

Director and screenwriter: Josh Ruben

Storyline: A power breakdown leads to random strangers to start off a horror story conversation.The stories make their way through as they are revealed by Fred and Fanny bringing life to Casket Cabins. Fanny is far better a storyteller than Fred – who finally faces his biggest fear.
