Are you an aspiring filmmaker, waiting to indulge in Sundance 2021 so you could get a chance to listen to award-winning filmmakers? In that case, you don’t need to wait till January because Sundance Institute has an amazing news for you.
As of today, you can get access to the workshops and discussions of award-winning filmmakers, writers, and directors through an online forum introduced by the Sundance Institute.
The organization just announced today they will be sharing a wealth of filmmaking training, a new digital platform which will be known as Sundance Co//ab. The website will be offering you with great webinars, curated resources, and free educational videos so you could enhance your filmmaking aura by staying right where you are, without traveling miles to Utah.
The site has already been launched and some of the very first content that Sundance Institute has shared on this forum includes a webinar from The Duplass Brothers, acting tips from Octavia Spencer and everything that Honey Boy director Alma Har’el has to say about this year’s Sundance Film Festival.
On the first page, you will find the registration information for the very first classes regarding directing and TV writing. The master class for adapting your short film into a feature film will be led by the director Jim Cummings. This is a feat he has accomplished for his latest movie Thunder Road. You can also learn a thing or two from The Irishman cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto or One Child Nation documentarian Nanfu Wang.
Sundance Institute has always shown commitment towards underrepresented communities and global diversity. This announcement is proof of their undying commitment and how much the institute wants to promote those who deserve it.
The videos on the website are available in three different languages, for now, that includes English Spanish and Arabic will be followed by French and Portuguese by next year. So far, the Sundance Co//ab has amassed 20,000 users from 189 countries for its beta-testing and it is also offering need-based scholarships to 20% of their users to make the subscription more accessible to most people.
There is also a free-plan available for the users so they get access to all the curated content on the site and the public forum whereas subscription package starts from $10 a month or $550 a year for an all-access membership.
The basic reason for establishing this platform is to build a community of like-minded people where they can come and share their ideas without having to leave their regions. It will allow them to share their work with one another and give honest feedback. It will help the aspiring filmmakers grow into better versions of themselves and it is surely going to help them out with any confusion they have regarding their work and ideas.
I am writing to the Festival because I am looking for a grant for my own Film Festival. I am a former Television Documentary producer/writer and am now back in my original profession as an Educator. I work at McKinley Elementary School in Santa Monica and have taught 2 After School programs to 4th and 5th graders and to Middle School kids. These programs called, “Telling Our Stories,” taught kids Empathy as they learned how to make their own documentary. I now want to extend that idea and create a “Our Stories Film Festival” where kids make films on the topic of Social Justice through the lens of Empathy. Is there any way I can connect with your administrators about this idea? I have a bio, an approved proposal and a budget ready to send. Thank you!!!
Annie please contact Sundance officials on their email. They will respond to you regarding your query.
