Powerful “Yalda” film welcomed by critics at Sundance 2021

Yalda, a Night for Forgiveness

“Yalda” is the only Iranian film directed by Massoud Bakhshi which gets to premiere at the Sundance film festival 2021. The compelling story, powerful message, and great direction are probably what made this film reach the 2021 Sundance festival.

The movie is about the struggle of a common woman in the cruel patriarchal system. The story revolves around a 26 years old woman who murdered her husband and now facing the death sentence. The victim’s daughter who has the retribution rights invite the murderous girl to a Tv show to forgive her.

A critic Ian Thomas Melon said “Yalda is a powerful film that shakes the human heart from within a modern lens. Although the entire film is only a one-night stand, the director has a full story in the narrative and the audience is well aware of all that has happened” and many other critics were happy to see the project as well.
